Our private GP practice at the Litfield House Medical Centre

At the Beard Medical Practice, we pride ourselves on providing the highest standard of care. Our private GPs deliver similar services to your own surgery, but being a privately run, our appointments are longer than a standard NHS appointment and we offer continuity with the same GP.

We are fully registered and independently regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This means our private GP practice is assessed by exactly the same high standards expected of an NHS GP practice and NHS doctors. Our privacy policy may be viewed here: Privacy Statement

All of our doctors are registered with the General Medical Council, as well as being members of the Royal College of General Practitioners. This is the qualification awarded to GPs, when they have completed their GP training and passed the membership exams in general practice.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is there any charge for registration with the Beard Medical Practice private GP service?
Registration is free and all we ask is that you bring photo id and a bill/letter with your address. The registration process takes just a few minutes at our reception.

  • What can a private GP at the Beard Medical Practice offer me?
Our private GPs provide similar services to an NHS surgery; however, our recommended appointments are two or three times longer than those with an NHS GP. There is also the option of an extended appointment, if you need more time with the doctor.

  • How quickly can I get a private GP appointment?
We aim to provide appointments within 24 hours of contacting us, usually on the same day. There are also flexible appointments available, if you wish to book in advance.

  • Why should I see the doctors at the Beard Medical Practice?
Most GPs have a GP qualification, with perhaps one or two specialist qualifications.
Our GPs have multiple specialist medical qualifications between them, ensuring they are more than qualified to assist you with any health problem.

  • With a private GP, is it possible to see the same doctor every time?
Yes, at the Beard Medical Practice, our private GPs are proud to offer continuity of care. This means you can nearly always be seen by the same doctor.

  • Can I discuss several problems in one appointment?
We offer appointments that are longer than in the NHS, so you shouldn't feel rushed or hurried with the doctor. If however, you wish to discuss several problems, we would always recommend you book an extended appointment. This is to ensure we can cover all problems thoroughly, without compromising the quality of your care.

  • If I use a private GP, do I remain registered with my NHS GP practice?
Yes, the Beard Medical Practice works alongside your NHS practice. With your consent, we update your own GP with relevant information about your care. If you do not wish us to share information with your NHS practice, we will respect your wishes.

  • Do you need my NHS GP records?
GP records are not necessary; however, we would request that all new patients complete the health questionnaire and patient registration form prior to their first consultation.

  • What if I need an interpreter to see a private GP?
We welcome all patients, including those who do not speak English or those who require sign language. If you are using an interpreter, we do request you book an extended appointment. This is to ensure we can thoroughly assess you without compromising the quality of your care.

  • Can Beard Medical Practice provide an interpreter for my private GP appointment?
If you require an interpreter, we can organise this for you, although we would request you notify us in advance. There may be an additional fee for the service, in addition to the extended appointment charge.

  • What about private GP prescriptions?
We can issue private prescriptions if a medication is indicated. Private GP prescriptions do not qualify for the NHS fee (or NHS free) prescriptions.

  • I have a private health policy, will it cover any visits to a private GP?
You will need to check with your own insurers to see whether or not it includes GP consultations. However, we will provide you with a receipt or invoice which will allow you to claim the cost back (if your policy allows).

  • What is the procedure for making a complaint?
If you are not happy with any aspect of our service, we would like to know about it. We request that all formal complaints are put in writing. Please see our complaints page for details.
