Frequently Asked Questions

(please email for further details)

  • Do I need a Cruise Ship Pre-Employment Seafarer Medical?                                                    This is a requirement for new staff staff working on a cruise ship. It is also a requirement for some existing staff on a periodic basis. The requirements for different companies vary; therefore, we recommend emailing us a copy of your medical form, prior to booking an appointment.

  • What happens during a Cruise Ship Pre-Employment Seafarer Medical?
The medical is very similar to an ENG1 medical. This will involve:

  1.  Measuring your fitness by checking your height, weight, blood pressure and doing a physical examination.

  2.  Checking your eyesight (before and after you put on glasses) and colour vision testing.

  3.  Checking your hearing.

  4.  Testing your urine for glucose, blood and protein, indicative of diabetes and kidney problems.

  5.  Listing any medication you’re currently taking on the medical form.

  6.  Asking about your previous medical history (these questions are on the medical form).

  7. There may also be additional tests such as blood tests and a chest x-ray for some companies.

  • What do I need to bring to my appointment?
This is a reminder of the items you will need to bring to your Cruise Ship Pre-employment Medical Examination:

  1. Photo ID

  2. A list of your vaccinations (available from your GP)

  3. Your glasses (do not wear contact lenses as they are removed for the eyesight test).

  4. A urine sample. Our reception will give you a specimen pot on arrival and direct you to the bathroom.

  5. Any hospital letters and/or a list of your current medication.

  • What should I do if I have a significant health condition or I am unsure if it is relevant?
Please email us in advance of your appointment and provide details of your health condition. We can then set aside additional time for your assessment.

  • Do you offer a discount if I require two similar seafarer medicals during the appointment?      Yes, we can often offer a discount if you are having two similar medicals at the same time; however, please let us know in advance if this is required.

Booking your appointment                                                                                                                      Please email us in advance so we can determine the length of appointment required.
